Samuel Lee Gravely Jr.: Breaking Naval Barriers as the First Black Admiral in the U.S. Navy

Samuel Lee Gravely Jr. made history on April 28, 1971, when he became the first African American to be promoted to the rank of admiral in the United States Navy. His achievement marked a significant breakthrough in a military institution that had long been segregated and resistant to racial integration.
